Indonesia Ready to Become Southeast Asia Vaccine Hub
UMMATIMES - The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi in his working visit to Wuyi China emphasized that Indonesia is ready to become a vaccine hub for Southeast Asian needs.
Retno explained that he discussed this plan with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi. This long-term plan, said Retno, could be realized with support from China. This vaccine hub is not only in the form of storage but also in the form of developing the vaccine raw material industry.
"Apart from short-term cooperation, we also discuss long-term cooperation to make Indonesia a vaccine hub in Southeast Asia. This is still an early stage, but we are proposing for vaccine development, the raw material industry and increasing national production capacity. This support, said Retno, also received support from Russia. After meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister last week, Russia's support for becoming a Southeast Asian vaccine hub was encouraged.
"We also held a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister. We also discussed the development of this vaccine. Russia expressed its political support for greater vaccine development in Indonesia," said Retno.
Previously, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his seriousness in helping Indonesia as a production center for the COVID-19 vaccine in the Southeast Asia (ASEAN) region.
"China has sent the COVID-19 vaccine to ASEAN countries and is helping Indonesia to become a vaccine center that can meet the needs of ASEAN countries," said Wang Yi.
