Singapore; Accept Travelers with Covid Test Results and Digital Vaccine Passport

UMMATIMES - Singapore will accept visitors using a Covid-19 test certificate and digital vaccine passport in their travel tickets next month, Singapore's aviation regulator said on Monday.

Singapore will receive International Air Transport Association (IATA) mobile travel tickets for pre-departure checks, under which travelers can get permission to fly into Singapore by presenting a smartphone app containing their data from an accredited laboratory. .

The ticket was successfully tested by Singapore Airlines. More than 20 airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines, are also testing the digital tickets.

"The success of our joint efforts will make IATA's partnership with the Singapore government a model for others to follow," said IATA director general Willie Walsh.

Singapore, which has recorded relatively few Covid-19 cases this year, has been a leader in developing and deploying technology during the pandemic. Singapore also wants to be the first country to open up to international events.

Airlines hope that more countries will approve digital tickets on the app to allow travel to proceed more quickly, and avoid delays at airports that require multiple document checks.

Currently, travelers from most countries are required to take a Covid-19 swab test prior to departure within 72 hours of their flight to travel to Singapore, and test results are shown during check-in at the airport and upon arrival.
