Letter to Biden, Vietnam Proposes Vaccine Research Cooperation

UMMATIMES - Vietnam suggested that its country and the United States could increase cooperation in research, production, and transfer of Covid-19 vaccine technology.

Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc conveyed this in a letter sent to US President Joe Biden, Sunday (30/5), quoted by the Vietnamese state media VGP news. Nguyen welcomed the US pledge to provide $ 4 billion (around Rp.57.15 trillion) to the COVAX Facility.

According to Vietnam, the COVAX Facility is considered to provide valuable assistance to them and other developing countries in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic amid a global vaccine shortage. Meanwhile, Vietnam has received around 2.5 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine through the COVAX Facility.

President Nguyen also welcomed the US commitment to share an additional 80 million doses of the vaccine with the international community. Nguyen hopes the US will continue to help Vietnam and other countries access sources of supply for Covid-19 vaccines.

The President of Vietnam hopes that both parties will continue to deepen bilateral relations that benefit both the Vietnamese people and the US.
