Argentina produces half a million doses of Sputnik V vaccine

UMMATIMES - The Argentine laboratory Richmond said Friday it had produced nearly half a million doses of Russia's Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine, the country's first production. The vaccine is awaiting approval by the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) and Russia's Gamaleya Institute for its launch, Richmond posted on Twitter.

"We appreciate the hard work of our staff to achieve this first goal, and continue our commitment to local vaccine production," he said.

Argentina belatedly launched its Covid-19 vaccination program. Only about 18 million doses have been administered to date in the country. Just a little over 3.5 million people have taken the full dose.

The Covid-19 vaccines currently being used in Argentina are Sputnik V, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm. Previously, CoviShield was also used.

So far, there have been 88,247 Covid-19 deaths in the country. "Today we celebrate a new achievement in the creation of Sputnik V," said Argentina's Minister of Production and Labor, Matias Kulfas.
