China Agrees to Help 11 Islamic Countries Face the Pandemic

UMMATIMES - The Chinese government and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) signed an agreement to support the construction of health laboratories in 11 Islamic countries in Africa.

The agreement was signed by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IsDB as a financial institution under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on June 14.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Thursday that the health laboratories will be built in 11 Islamic countries in an effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

"China supports 11 Islamic countries in Africa in procuring public health laboratory equipment and training medical personnel to improve their ability to deal with the pandemic," he said.

Since the pandemic hit, China along with Islamic countries have experienced difficult times.

According to him, China is setting an example in fighting COVID-19 through solidarity in building a future with the international community.

"The OIC and the IsDB highly commend China's assistance. This cooperation is a milestone in establishing partnerships for handling COVID-19 and China and the OIC's public health programs," Zhao said.

China is very interested in forging even closer relations with OIC countries.
