US Review Pfizer-Moderna Post-vaccination Cardiac Inflammation Cases
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) panel will meet on Wednesday to review a possible link between cases of heart inflammation and Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna's Covid-19 mRNA vaccines. The CDC has been investigating cases of heart inflammation, especially in youth, for months.
UMMATIMES - Meanwhile, Israel's Ministry of Health earlier this June said it had found a link between such cases and Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine. The committee meeting will begin at 11:00 local time.
"At the meeting, the CDC will present details of the more than 300 confirmed cases of myocarditis and pericarditis reported to the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) among the more than 20 million vaccinated adolescents and young adults in the United States," said CDC director Rochelle Walensky. at a White House press conference last week.
Early last June, the CDC said it was still evaluating the risk of the condition and did not confirm a causal relationship between the two. However, the CDC says a higher-than-expected number of youth have developed heart inflammation following a second dose of the Covid-19 mRNA vaccine, with more than half of cases reported in ages 12-24.
