Brazilians protest for President Jair Bolsonaro to be impeached

Brazilians on Saturday, July 3, 2021, demonstrated in a number of streets in the country of Samba, demanding that President Jair Bolsonaro be impeached. Protesters also demanded that more coronavirus vaccines be provided to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

UMMATIMES - Brazil has now become the second country in the world with the largest death toll after the United States. Prior to the demonstration, on Friday, July 2, 2021, Supreme Court Justice Rosa Weber gave approval for an investigation into President Bolsonaro on charges of irregularities in the procurement of a coronavirus vaccine developed in India.

Initially, the Brazilian public planned to demonstrate on July 24, 2021, but it was moved forward after there was evidence of irregularities regarding the agreement to procure the coronavirus vaccine, before the Brazilian Senate committee conducted an investigation into the federal government's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 crisis in Brazil has been exacerbated by the slow pace of mass immunization against the coronavirus vaccine.

"That's not denial, that's corruption," said 71-year-old Marilda Borroso at a protest in the capital Rio de Janeiro.

As of 2 p.m., the demonstrations had attracted thousands of people in at least 13 Brazilian states. Local media reported that demonstrations were originally scheduled to take place in 315 Brazilian cities and 15 states.
