June is India's highest Covid-19 death record

Data analysis by the Government of India shows that the death toll from Covid-19 in the country in June 2021 was at a record high. India has officially reported a total of 403,281 deaths from Covid-19 out of the 29.75 million Covid-19 positive numbers there.

India has a population of 1.35 billion people. The country claims the death toll from Covid-19 there is still below the United States and Brazil. But some experts firmly believe the real number, both the positive number for Covid-19 in India and deaths from the virus, is higher than reported.

Based on data reported by state authorities and data collected by the Ministry of Health of India, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 in India in June 2021 increased to 3 percent compared to the October 2020 period which was recorded at 1.26 percent.

"We know this is the beginning of the second wave of Covid-19, where the Covid-19 pandemic is mostly spreading in northern India and reports from there are not as good as other states," said Chandrakant Lahariya, epidemiologist and public health expert in New Delhi.

A number of states in southern India, reported better data, but they soon caught up with the Covid-19 outbreak. The death toll from Covid-19 is now being recorded following protests from the public for the death toll, which is undocumented.
