Russia Sets Record Daily Death Due To Covid-19

Russia on Friday (2/7) again recorded a record daily death from Covid-19 with 679 patients dying in a day, bringing the death toll to 136,565.

UMMATIMES - The increase in cases also remained significant, with 23,218 people confirmed positive for Covid-19 within a day, bringing the total cases to 5.5 million. In the same period, recoveries reached 5.03 million, including 18,197 patients who recovered in the last 24 hours.

Anna Popova, Russia's chief health officer, said 10 of Russia's 49 regions have reported an increase in Covid-19 cases.

"A new vaccine is needed to fight the new variant of Covid-19," Popova said Friday.

In addition, Russian authorities have imposed mandatory isolation and PCR tests for people suffering from Covid-19 symptoms to break the chain of infection.

"Lockdown is our last resort and will be enforced only if other attempts are unsuccessful," said Deputy Mayor of Moscow Anastasia Rakova.

As of Friday, 6,893 new cases and 112 deaths were recorded in the Russian capital.
