Australia Promises to Donate 10 Million Vaccine Doses to ASEAN

Australia has pledged to donate more than 10 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Southeast Asian countries. Kangaroo country also offered financial assistance amounting to 92.6 million US dollars.

Ummatimes - This was conveyed by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison while participating in a virtual meeting with ASEAN leaders on Wednesday (27/10). “ASEAN is at the center of the Indo-Pacific and we support it through our words and actions,” Morrison said.

On that occasion, in addition to the pandemic, Morrison also highlighted the problems of transnational crime and energy security. In this regard, Australia offered 92.6 million US dollars to address the challenge.

He said a comprehensive strategic partnership between Australia and ASEAN would be more than just a label. Morrison encouraged ASEAN to consider positively the proposal to improve relations. "We will support it with substance that promotes our partnership to address complex issues in the future," he said.

Australia's push for stronger ties with ASEAN comes amid growing concerns about China's activities and influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
