Greta Thunberg Joins Financial Protest in UK

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg joins protesters in front of Standard Chartered's London office. These demonstrations demand that financial institutions stop funding the extraction of fossil fuels.

Ummatimes - The renowned climate change activist made a brief appearance on the streets of the City of London, the financial heart of the British capital, where some of the biggest banks and financial firms are headquartered. During Friday's rally (29/10) demonstrators held up protest signs that read 'Keep it in the Ground' and 'Do You Breathe With Money?'.

The 18-year-old joined protesters on a narrow London street. He was surrounded by 20 international activists from various countries including Namibia, the Philippines and Samoa who joined Thunberg to attend the UN climate change meeting or COP26.

Surrounded by a television crew and photographers, Thunberg stood with other young protesters. He left not long after. In his interview with the BBC, Thunberg said

the protesters want banks to 'stop funding our destruction' because there are still many oil companies being funded by banks.

Recently he berated politicians by only saying 'blah, blah, blah' but doing nothing about climate change. Other activists in other cities such as New York and Frankfurt will also stage rallies. They demand that financial institutions stop pumping money to extract fossil fuels.
