Deadly Music Festival in US, Police Investigate Spectators Injected with Drugs Secretly
Astroworld music festival featuring rap star Travis Scott takes a toll. Eight people died and dozens were injured during a panic overcrowding on Friday night, November 5, 2021. Most of the victims were young concertgoers.
Ummatimes - City Police Chief Troy Finner said police would investigate the alleged crime at the deadly concert. According to him, the police received information that a concertgoer had injected drugs into another person.
The disaster occurred at NRG Park at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night. The concert features lead star Travis Scott, a Grammy-nominated singer and producer.
The death toll was caused by an audience of about 50,000 people jostling towards the stage. Many fainted partly from suffering heart attacks or other medical problems, officials told reporters outside the venue.
According to Houston Police Assistant Chief Executive Larry Satterwhite, minutes later mass chaos ensued in a short period of time. The show was stopped and ended at 10:10 pm.
According to Finner, police are investigating the injection of drugs at the concert. Police received reports of several individuals injecting others with drugs.
A security guard reported feeling injected in his neck. He tries to grab someone but then falls unconscious. He also woke up after receiving an antidote injection. Finner said medical staff also found needle marks on the officer's neck.
City Fire Chief Samuel Peña said there were multiple exits at the venue so there were no obstacles for spectators.
