Firmly, President Fires Minister of Finance and Minister of Home Affairs

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has decided to sack the finance and interior ministers without specifying the reasons for the changes, state TV and the president's press secretary said late Friday.

Ummatimes - Kiir removed Athian Ding Athian from the post of finance minister and appointed Rather Achuil Lual as his successor.

Meanwhile, Mahmoud Solomon Agook will replace Paul Mayom Akec as interior minister.

President Ateny's press secretary Wek Ateny said the changes would not affect the functioning of the government.

South Sudan became independent from Sudan in 2011. However, two years later the two fought a battle when forces loyal to Kiir and forces loyal to then-rival Riek Machar clashed in the capital.

The civil war, which ended in a ceasefire agreement in 2018, killed 400,000 people and caused Africa's biggest refugee crisis since the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
