Palestine Accepts UN Resolution Supporting Sovereignty Over Natural Resources

Palestinians on Friday welcomed a UN General Assembly resolution affirming Palestinian sovereignty over their natural resources.

Ummatimes - In a statement, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said the vote in favor of the resolution affirms the rights and sovereignty of the Palestinian people over its natural resources including land, water and energy resources.

Al-Maliki demanded Israel stop exploiting natural resources in the occupied Palestinian territories. He stressed that there is no sovereignty for the occupier (Israel) in the lands of the Palestinian state or in its cities.

He also called on the international community to work to pressure the occupier (Israel) to implement international resolutions and ensure the freedom of the Palestinian people to benefit from their natural resources.

On Thursday, the United Nations General Assembly's Economic and Finance Committee (Second Committee) approved a resolution, affirming the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their natural resources. The resolution was approved by 157 countries while seven countries, including the United States (US), Canada and Israel, voted against the resolution.
