Putin: The World Must Be Prepared To Face The Changes Of The Corona Virus

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the emergence of a new variant of Covid-19, Omicron, which has now spread to dozens of countries. Given that the pandemic is still ongoing, Putin assessed that the world really needs to be prepared to face changes or mutations of the corona virus.

Ummatimes - Putin said that in the coming weeks, the world will see how serious the impact of Omicron's emergence is. "But it is very clear that we need to prepare for any changes in the virus," he said while speaking at a Russian investment forum on Tuesday, the Russian news agency TASS reported.

Putin believes that vaccination is still a solution to deal with the pandemic. However, he highlighted that there are still different treatments for certain vaccines. Putin called for mutual recognition of every Covid-19 vaccine.

"I mean, mutual recognition of vaccines and vaccination certificates, availability of vaccines for all regions of the planet (as well as) cooperation on new drugs against the coronavirus," Putin said.

In August 2020, Russia became the first country in the world to register its developed Covid-19 vaccine, namely Sputnik V. At that time, experts expressed doubts over the vaccine's safety. Because Moscow has not yet conducted large-scale clinical trials.

However, the leading medical journal, The Lancet, says Sputnik has more than 90 percent efficacy. Currently dozens of countries are already using the vaccine. However, until now the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Medicines Agency have not approved the emergency use of Sputnik V.

So far Russia has not approved any foreign-made vaccines for use in its vaccination campaign.
