Netherlands will lift all Covid-19 restrictions

The Netherlands will lift almost all of its restrictions on Covid-19 on February 25. This step was taken due to a decrease in the number of cases and hospitalizations.

Bar, restaurant and nightclub operations will return to normal. Meanwhile, social distancing and face masks are no longer mandatory in most public places. However, visitors must show proof of vaccination, or a negative Covid-19 test result.

“This country will open up again. We will return to how it was before corona, you don't have to keep a distance of 1.5 meters anymore. It is mandatory to use public transportation and airports, but there is no obligation," said Health Minister Ernst Kuipers, reported by Al Jazeera, Wednesday (16/2/2022).

Ummatimes - While the government has relaxed restrictions, Kuipers warned that the pandemic is not over. He stressed that vulnerable people still have to be careful.

"We have just passed the peak (of new cases), therefore we insist that all remain cautious," Kuipers said.

The Netherlands experienced two riots in 2021 due to coronavirus restrictions. Police shot and injured several protesters in Rotterdam last November.

Kuipers took office as health minister in January. Kuipers was quick to hint that he wanted people to return to normal life.
