Rejecting Old Age Security Regulations, Masses of Labor Demonstrators in Front of the Ministry of Manpower

A mass of workers demonstrate in front of the office of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker), South Jakarta. They rejected the new Old Age Security (JHT) regulation and demanded that the Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah be removed.

The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) held an action to reject the Old Age Security (JHT) regulation issued by the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker). The masses have now arrived at the Ministry of Manpower office, Jalan Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta.

Ummatimes - Wednesday (16/02), observed two commando cars. The crowd arrived at around 09.40 WIB wearing white attributes and flags.

It can be seen that the KSPI mass gathering point is in the parking lot of the Ministry of Manpower office. A number of police officers were seen guarding the area in front of the entrance and on the edge of Jalan Gatot Subroto to regulate traffic flow.

Two labor demands

Previously, KSPI President Said Iqbal stated that today (16/02) the mass of workers held a demonstration in front of the office of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) and the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan head office.

There are two demands from the workers, namely to revoke the Regulation of the Minister of Manpower Number 2 of 2022 concerning Procedures and Requirements for Payment of Old Age Security Benefits (JHT), and to remove the Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah.

Not only based in Jakarta, Said explained that the Labor Party together with all trade unions throughout Indonesia will hold demonstrations.

"At the same time in all regions of Indonesia this action was also held, namely at the local Manpower Offices, both districts/cities and respective provinces as well as BPJS Employment branch offices throughout Indonesia," said Said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday ( 15/02).

He ensured that the demonstration would follow health protocol procedures. They will follow the advice of security officers and the COVID-19 Task Force. Therefore, it will limit the number of people who will conduct demonstrations.

"The action will be followed by thousands (of workers) because tens of thousands are not possible with the health protocol situation that we will implement strictly," said Said.

Said continued, the reason his party asked President Jokowi to replace the Manpower Minister was because his policies were considered not in favor of workers, one of which was Permenaker 2/2022.

"Now suddenly the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 2 of 2022 is issued, there is no rain, no wind," he added.
